music is important as it creates tension and also action and also it relates to the audience who are watching the film or even listening to an orchestra.
an example would be in the movie jaws you known with the two notes what are a semi tone apart and this has been a fantastic success winning lots and lots awards as its only 2 notes but it creates an atmosphere and tension as it builds/speeds up.
it is important within this film arguably the track is more important than the film as if you was going to describe the film to anybody all you need to do is play the 2 notes and people will get it straight away. arguably the song/tracks in films makes the film/track.
i think this example of jaws is a lot better than the film piranha as it could play a certain note and people would get it but if you played just them from jaws people would get it straight away and the build up meets the criteria of the film others argue that image without sound builds better tension but my conclusion to this is that it depends on the film and what genre the film is.
other examples with Darth Vader in star wars and also Indiana jones with the trumpets. these are something called 'themes' or 'motifs' which means that each character has there own bit of music.
